While over 250,000 tourists visit Sault St. Marie's lochs per year, the downtown has not attracted the same volume of retail customers. DDR was a member of a four firm planning and design team charged with preparing a downtown revitalization plan and implementing a Phase I, physical improvements package. The project envisioned several new parks in the downtown that would attract people to the heart of the retail area as well as increase the accessibility of the parking for tourists. Pedestrian movement was improved by creating well lit and defined crosswalks.
