Chelsea United Methodist Retirement Center
Chelsea, Michigan

DDR developed a Master Landscape Plan that preserved large, existing canopy trees while providing a ground plane of flowering plant material to welcome residents and visiting family and friends. The creation of a simplified vehicular and walkway system made it safer for residents to walk the grounds. Finally, increased parking accomodated the needs of residents and guests.

Other features included a residents' garden, a horticulture therapy area, and children's play area for grandchildren. The goal was to encourage residents to get oudoors if able and enjoy the grounds. For those who were not ambulatory, plants were used to attract birds close to windows and to frame long views from residents' rooms.
